Founded in 2019 by Rick Whitney, Environmental Water Services was established to fill a critical gap in the Minnesota and Iowa municipal markets. After moving to Minnesota from Colorado, Rick brought over 20 years of water and wastewater industry experience to the region.
While working for a large corporate contractor, he realized that these massive outfits wanted cities to remain dependent on their services for 40 to 60 years. Because operators were spread too thin across too many contracts, the quality of service declined, and cities weren't getting what they paid for.
Rick decided to build Environmental Water Services differently. Instead of stripping control away from municipalities, we actively train your local employees so that your city can eventually take back control of its own assets. We're here to act as your local wastewater management partner who values your city's long-term stability and financial goals over securing longterm contract.

EWS was founded in 2019 by Rick Whitney, who brings over 20 years of industry experience to the table. Our locally owned and operated business is based out of Wykoff, Minnesota.
We carry the most critical credentials needed to manage your infrastructure safely. Our team holds a Class A wastewater certification, a Class B water certification, a Type 40 biosolids land applicator certification, an on-site inspection certification for SSTS (septic) systems, and NASCO certification for pipe inspections.
We serve the southern half of the State of Minnesota and Northern Iowa. Our service area stretches from Moorhead to Hibbing, down to Worthington, and across to communities like Lewiston, West Concord, Fountain, Racine, and Oronoco.
